Join the Factory 500 group for the last excursion of the year as we explore Pittsburgh's historic Troy Hill neighborhood.
On this excursion, we will hear from upcoming resident artists for the Mattress Factory’s Regional Open Call, Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis. We will begin the evening enjoying beautiful views of Pittsburgh at Lenka and Phillip’s studio, the refurbished 1888 Troy Hill Inclined Plane Company building—where Troy Hill’s own short-lived incline operated. Here, Phillip and Lenka will speak to us about their artistic practices; the transformation and history of their studio space; their public art gallery, Gallery Closed; and their most recent project, Darkhouse Lighthouse, the newest addition to the Troy Hill Art Houses.
After hearing from Lenka and Phillip, we will take a five-minute walk around the corner for self-guided tours of the Troy Hill Art Houses, including Darkhouse Lighthouse, only a week after it opens to the public! We will end the night with a reception over light bites and beverages at the home of Pittsburgh art collector and friend of the Mattress Factory, Evan Mirapaul, the founder of the Troy Hill Art Houses.
